***COVID-19: Information***

It is with great sadness that due to the financial impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have had to close the Minories building for the remainder of the lease term. Colchester Institute will continue to care for the building and the beautiful gardens whilst supporting the Victor Batte-Lay Foundation to identify a new tenant to take forward one of Colchester’s most loved and long standing institutions.

The College would like to thank all of our supporters including the Victor Batte-Lay Foundation, the Friends of the Minories, Wilkin and Sons, Colchester Art Society and many other stakeholders who have contributed to the site over the past 12 years.

A message from Max

I know this is heart-breaking news for everyone. I have been personally contacting exhibitors and over the coming weeks in June we will be contacting all of our shop artists to confirm what we have, arrange any outstanding payments and to organise collection.

Please be assured the Minories is still here under the Victor Batte Laye Trust and we will continue to maintain and service the building and keep it safe and secure until the next person takes over.

Yours Max

Location – Access and Directions

Directions

Follow the A12 north bound to junction 27 and follow the road signs directing you to the Town Centre which takes about five minutes. The Minories Galleries are located just at the end of the High Street at the top of East Hill.

Access

We are housed in a Grade II listed building, which is a mix of Tudor and Georgian. So we are sorry but we don’t have a lift and that does restrict access to the first floor unless you are sufficiently able to use our two staircases. Currently our wheelchair access is via the garden gate.

There are two train stations in Colchester, with the closest being Colchester Town Station, which is located in the Town Centre. This is approximately a 5-10 minute walk along the length of Queens Street where you will see Colchester Castle across the road at the top and the Minories Galleries is just round the corner on the right, opposite Hollytrees. Colchester North Station is the town’s main station and is a 20 minute walk, which is now guided by the Fixing the Link walking route

By Bus

Colchester Bus Station is located on Osbourne Street in the Town Centre and runs regular services locally and regionally. There is also a Park and Ride from the A12 at junction 28.

Passengers travelling along the High Street can alight at either stop Ha, which is opposite the Minories Galleries at the top of East Hill, or Ja in Queen Street depending on the bus service. Passengers travelling up East Hill towards the Town Centre can alight at stop Hb.

By Air

Stansted Airport is just 50 minutes away from Colchester by road via the A12 and A120, and there are regular Coach transfer services available between Marks Tey Train Station and Stansted Airport.
